Plans are currently progressing for what should be another special year for Banna Píob Chuan Modh.
The band continues to thrive and a junior section has been established through lessons in Knockrooskey NS, and Gaelscoil na Cruaiche in Westport, and the Junior/Juvenile section of the band will make their maiden voyage in the St. Patrick’s Day Parade 2013 in Westport.
Of course, the established band along with the newly formed Junior/Juvenile section continues to work hard, practicing for in excess of five hours a week at Carrowholly NS.
Tenor Drum Section
Roisin, together with experienced tenor drummer, Ailish Walsh are working with up to seven tenor drummers in the development section. Practices take place weekly in Carrowholly NS along with the snare drummers led by Owen Mc Namara.
Snare Drum Section
Raphael Dziubinski, one of our snare drummers, is also a professional percussionist. Raph teaches drummers in Carrowholly National School and Knockrooskey National School weekly. Added to this Jack, helped by his friend and fellow drummer Eanna Geraghy, give lessons to these aspiring drummers every Wednesday evening before senior band practice.
There are currently 5 young drummers in this development section. All of the above is overseen by Drum Tutor Owen Mc Namara, who travels from Achill weekly to teach the senior snare sections. Owen's commitment to the band has been unbelievable since its foundation in 2010. Lessons for absolute beginners also take place on Wednesday evenings.
Des has given lessons to pipers weekly since October 2010. Those who started back then are now all senior members of the band and have been joined along the way by those who have made the grade. Both Peter and Des teach beginners every Wednesday. Both men lead Senior Band Practice every Wednesday evening.
